After months of attention on Red Sea disruptions, another important shipping route has recently attracted market attention again: the Panama Canal.

However, the current adjustment is mainly related to seasonal water availability.

As the Panama Canal relies on a freshwater-based lock system to raise and lower vessels between different water levels, reduced rainfall during the dry season can limit the amount of water available for each transit. As a result, the Canal Authority adjusts the maximum allowable vessel draft to maintain safe and efficient operations.

The Panama Canal Authority has gradually reduced the maximum allowable draft for vessels, meaning larger ships may need to reduce cargo loading in order to pass through the canal.
